1. Healing Is A Process
So important to understand that forgiveness is not instant even when we make the choice to forgive: as there is a process that needs to unfold in your heart, mind and spirit. So many times this process is not understood and as a result the choice to forgive never comes to fruition. When you are hurting deeply or offended and have been abused or betrayed on many levels it may seem completely not even an option to forgive the person who has harmed you(mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually) Forgiving this person means you are willing to make the choice to not walk in bitterness and anger but does not mean that you have to restore relationship with them.No you do not need to have dinner with your abuser for example. You do need to to be able to process your emotions and to no longer allow this wound of unforgiveness to run your life Going through the forgiveness process is an essential step in your healing from trauma as well as the offenses we all encounter on a daily basis. There is no quick fix:remember that this is a process..be kind and gentle to yourself as you are going through.
2. Forgiving Yourself
Sometimes we can be the most unforgiving towards ourselves as we go through memory lane of all the decisions and choices we made that devalued and hurt us deeply. Time to decide to forgive yourself for all the past versions of you that truly did not represent who you are and who you are becoming.
3. Forgiving Others
Being able to forgive those who were emotionally unavailable, physically and/or sexually abusive, emotionally abusive, critical, who abandoned and neglected you as a child or as an adult can only be described as a miracle. It truly is a step toward you reclaiming yourself and going on with your life and it is a supernatural step that I believe the Lord can give you the heart and courage to take.
4. Effects of Unforgiveness
Chronic unforgiveness effects every part of your mind body and spirit and there is so much research documenting how sickness like cancer and heart disease, insomnia, back pain, autoimmune diseases are fueled by bitterness, and anger...how our brain and body chemistry reacts to what we thinking and feeling. Depression and anxiety are also fueled by unforgiveness.
5. Therapy Can Be An Essential Element In The Healing Process
