Staying Calm in the Midst of the Storm

Sounds much easier said then done.... but as you begin to consider the benefits of  making a decision to stay calm in the midst of the storm....this traumatic time: you can begin to notice how  staying calm will help your mood as well as your immune system...both are essential to address especially now.

If you spend time listening or watching the news frequently this will feed your anxiety..this is a time to notice what is soothing and calming so that you can be more calm rather than agitated and  for you to be in less of a hypervigilant and hyperaroused  state of mind.So important to notice your thoughts  when you begin to feel anxious as  our thoughts fuel our feelings and when you go to the place of "what if" as we are all living with  so much uncertainty and  unknowns:you can then  choose  be able to say to yourself" another thought that is soothing ie."am not going there" and then  put in another more soothing thought like"I am going to enjoy this day without worry"As you stay more calm when faced with stress you are retraining your brain to not have to go to the "fight/flight/freeze"response(when faced with trauma) and your nervous system is going to develop the capacity to stay calm even when undergoing major stress...so hold on....You cannot process trauma in the midst of the trauma: the processing needs to be done when the trauma is no longer going on but now is the time to begin to be gentle and kind to yourself and others

The Valleys and Storms Can be Opportunities rather Than Obstacles

All of our distractions have been taken away and this can be a time of reflection where you can really begin to identify who you are and what and whom  is truly important to you,,,You are not your job whether you are working at home or have lost your job or you may be an essential worker and coping with major stress on a daily basis..You may have been addicted to work and your drug of choice has been taken...or you are working at home and having to take care of your children or you may have had no time to spend  with yourself or your family and now you do.,,since now you may have more time and the opportunity  for you to get to know yourself as a" human being"rather than  a "human doing" and for those who love you to be blessed by you ..I believe that this is a time when you have a wonderful opportunity for emotional and spiritual growth:an opportunity  where  you can begin to have a more tender heart and spirit ….coming out of this:better than how you went in!
